Care Centred Around You

The key to optimal outcomes in stroke rehabilitation is in facilitating a well-planned, personalized programme for a patient.
This is the philosophy we use when designing a stroke rehabilitation programme for our patients. Every patient enrolling into our stroke rehabilitation programme undergoes an assessment before starting. During this assessment, the patient will be seen by a doctor, nutritionist and physiotherapist. Our healthcare experts come together as a team to ensure we are able to offer you the highest quality of care.

As a team, we understand that each patient’s journey to recovery is unique. As such we approach all our patients as individuals. We provide the medical, physical and emotional support each of our patients need. This is our approach from the time they admit to us until they are back to full health.

Incidence of Strokes in Malaysia

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability among Malaysians. Trends show that it’s set to become the second highest cause of death among Malaysians by 2040. According to data from a recent study, an average of 92 stroke admissions occur across all Malaysian hospitals daily. This report also illustrates an increasing incidence of strokes in people below 40. Post stroke survivors are inflicted with many co-morbidities. 7 out of 10 of them are leaving the hospital with varying degrees of physical dependency. This includes dependency in areas of daily living like bathing, toileting, eating, etc.

Lack of professional rehab facilities

The void in stroke care in Malaysia today is the lack of professional rehab facilities. Malaysia needs a robust multi-disciplinary approach to stroke rehabilitation. This realization prompted us to establish the first professional stroke rehabilitation centre.

Professional Stroke Rehabilitation Programme

This facility focuses on post-stroke rehabilitation. Managed by a team of professional therapists, we promote an early intervention strategy.

Our goal is to get stroke survivors into our rehab programme as soon as possible. Patients admit into our stroke rehabilitation centre immediately following discharge from a hospital. This early enrollment into our stroke rehabilitation programme promises the best rehabilitation outcome for our patients. This allows the opportunity for them to re-learn the skills that they lost to the stroke.

Our centre’s is also equipped to manage the acute complications following a stroke. Our experienced nursing staff are capable of meeting the complex nursing needs of our patients. This enables our skilled rehab team the luxury to focus on our patients rehabilitation programme. Our centre is the most well-equipped physiotherapy centre within a care facility in Malaysia.

Communicating Goals and Progress

We are meticulous in communication with our patients and their loved ones. We discuss goals, expectation and achievements at admission, during the programme and upon discharge. We measure progress of our patients clinical outcomes using the Modified Barthel Index(MBI). MBI allows us to measure the progress of our patients in the areas of daily living activities. We record this on admission and upon discharge. This allows us to chart the progress our patients are making with our stroke rehabilitation programme.

Madam Nagaletchumi Nagalingam

We were previously told to brace ourselves for the inevitable as Amma was going downhill. However, within one week of Amma’s stay here at Genesis, we are thrilled with the 180-degree change in her. She is alert, vibrant, more interactive, coherent in speech and with improved appetite…

The medical personnel and care staff at Genesis Life Centre did so much for my 80 year old dad when he was a resident there. From being bed ridden and totally dependent, they nursed and rehabilitated and care for him until he is able to take care of himself. All these in just a few month.
