Every patient enrolling into our stroke rehabilitation centre in Malaysia undergoes an assessment before starting. According to data from a recent study, an average of 92 stroke admissions occur across all Malaysian hospitals daily. This report also illustrates an increasing incidence of strokes in people below 40. Post stroke survivors are inflicted with many co-morbidities. 7 out of 10 of them are leaving the hospital with varying degrees of physical dependency. This includes dependency in areas of daily living like bathing, toileting, eating, etc.

The void in stroke care in Malaysia today is the lack of professional rehab facilities. Malaysia needs a robust multi-disciplinary approach to stroke rehabilitation. This realization prompted us to establish the first professional stroke rehabilitation centre in Malaysia.

Our goal is to get stroke survivors into our rehab programme as soon as possible. Patients admit into our stroke rehabilitation centre immediately following discharge from a hospital. This early enrollment into our stroke rehabilitation programme promises the best rehabilitation outcome for our patients. This allows the opportunity for them to re-learn the skills that they lost to the stroke.

Communicating Goals and Progress

We are meticulous in communication with our patients and their loved ones. We discuss goals, expectation and achievements at admission, during the programme and upon discharge. We measure progress of our patients clinical outcomes using the Modified Barthel Index(MBI). MBI allows us to measure the progress of our patients in the areas of daily living activities. We record this on admission and upon discharge. This allows us to chart the progress our patients are making with our stroke rehabilitation programme.
